The GNABA has a long history in San Diego.  The organization has been a force to be noticed for many years, in the interest of building business in San Diego's Navajo area.  This includes the areas of Allied Gardens, Grantville, San Carlos and Del Cerro.  If you own a business in these areas or the immediately surrounding ones, feel free to attend our meetings/ mixers and get to know us.  Our purpose is to build your business, as we are a non-profit organization as registered in the State of California.

The History of GNABA - by Jan Nanning

The GNABA helped start the Annual SpringFest and helped fund it for many years.  The same with the 4th of July Music Fest, Lake Murray Picnic and Lake Murray Street Fair. GNABA participated in numerous community committees, including a very active role in the Public Advisory Committee that oversaw the building of the Red Line into SDSU and many organization dealing with children and Children’s Hospital.

The GNABA was also represented on Committee to rebuild the San Carlos Library.  The GNABA responded when the code enforcement people seemed to overact to the number banners that businesses were hanging outside their buildings in Grantville.

The GNABA with the help of Councilmember Madaffer's assistant, Jay Wilson, was able to set up a Street fair for National Night Out with carnival rides and 70 vendor booths  in less than 35 days time.  We did that for two years.

The GNABA was able to resolve long-standing problems with vagrants hanging around the Union Bank and the McDonalds.

As the President of the GNABA, I received calls from just about every political candidate who was running in this district for advice and encouragement because they all respected what we did, including Johnnie Perkins when he ran for school board.

We had one of the most effective Candidate Nights at Mission Trails that this city has ever seen, with a catered dinner and every candidate running in this area present including our congressional and assembly member candidates.

We were actively involved in Pershing Middle Schools PIE program, their Read Ins, we also sent a contingent of members to Patrick Henry for many years to do the Senior Reviews. We assisted many merchants with their problems and found good resolutions for them.   I can’t count the number of times I was in front of the City Council to promote or vision or to speak up for an important issue.
